In January we began a new series of evening services called BIG QUESTIONS. These services happen once a month, on the first Sunday evening, and have a strong ‘outward’ focus – we want anyone, and everyone, to feel comfortable and welcomed at these sessions, especially if they don’t usually come to church.
So what BIG questions are we talking about?
Current issues in our world, worries and concerns about life (and death), questions about Christianity and church life… These sessions hopefully give space and time to explore questions, and to reflect on different ways of seeing, understanding and living with these questions as Christians. We might not have all the solutions (we haven’t called it ‘Big Answers’!) but aim for what is presented and shared in the sessions to be grounded in the teachings of Jesus.
Some of the ‘big questions’ we have looked at so far:
- Does God care about me?
- What’s gone wrong with the world? Prayers for peace.
- What’s Easter all about?
- Who is Jesus and what difference does he make?
Each Big Question session starts at 6.30pm, is an hour long, and includes short talks, readings and reflection time, testimonies from church members and community visitors, music and opportunity to pray. At 7.30pm we tuck into an array of free cakes and refreshments, and people tend to hang around for a chat, prayer or to carry on discussions.
Everyone is welcome to join us! We are encouraging church folk to invite friends and neighbours, and have lots of publicity material available for sharing. If you would like some, or want more information, please contact the Church Office. See you there!
